Asking costs nothing

Why ask us

It’s all in the details

  • Learned the hard way

    40+ countries:
Advice we paid for with our own mistakes.
  • An hour, not a week

    One conversation:
Instead of thirty tabs and three lost evenings.
  • Nothing to sell you

    No affiliate links:
where to book is your choice.

Consultation

An hour of talking instead of a week of browser tabs

We do not book for you and we take no commission from hotels. What we do is show you how we do it ourselves: where to look for flights, how to read a hotel price, what to measure a route with, and where people most often lose money and days. One hour, your questions, our screen.

  • Flights
  • Hotels and stays
  • Building the route
  • Road trips and car rental

Us and a travel agency: the difference

If you want to travel on your own, the difference is simple: an agency sells you a finished trip, and we help you figure out how to put one together yourself.

  • Where the advice comes from

    With us

From our own trips. 40+ countries we went to ourselves and paid for ourselves.

    At an agency

From a catalogue, and from whatever the operator passed on at their training day.

  • Whose interest

    With us

No commission and no affiliate links. It makes no difference to us where you book.

    At an agency

Commission from the hotel and the operator. Not villainy — it is the business model, but it moves the choice.

  • What you get

    With us

A method: how to search, what to compare, what to check in a price. It works next time too.

    At an agency

One assembled trip. Next time you start over.

  • Who pays the supplier

    With us

You do, directly. Nobody stands between you and the price.

    At an agency

The agency, and you pay the agency. You do not see the markup.

  • Before you pay

    With us

We tell you first whether we can help with your question. If we cannot, you pay nothing.

    At an agency

An enquiry, a contract, a deposit. The conversation only starts once you have filed the form.

  • Why we do this

    With us

Because it is how we travel. It grew out of a hobby, not out of a job opening.

    At an agency

Because it is the job. Nothing wrong with that — just a different source of interest.

step by step

How a consultation goes

  1. Tell us what you want to talk about

On WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram or by e-mail. A couple of lines is enough: where you are going, roughly when, and what is not coming together — flights, stays, the route, the car.

  2. We tell you whether we can help

If we have nothing to add on your destination or your question, we will say so plainly, and before you pay. We are not going to charge you for googling together.

  3. One hour of talking

By video or voice, at a time that suits you and in your time zone. We share our screen: where we look, what we compare, what we check in a price. Questions at any point.

  4. Notes with links

Afterwards we send a short summary: what we decided, what to search with, what to avoid. So you can listen instead of taking notes.

  5. From there you do it yourself

You book it yourself, directly, with nobody standing between you and the price. The method stays with you — for this trip and every one after it.

From “not sure about this” to a trip that just worked

Real SailSheep clients. We didn't book for them — in a consultation we helped them figure out the route, and they booked and travelled themselves. In an hour, we'll help you figure it out too.

Blog

The blog: how we do it

We write about what we have tested ourselves: how we search for flights, what we check in a price, and which decisions cost us. The method, not ready-made itineraries.

Hello, this is SailSheep

Who we are, why we switched from full trip planning to consultations, and what to expect from this blog. The short version for anyone who just found us.

Read the opening lines

We are Nikolai and Valeria. We live in Zurich, have traveled to 40+ countries, and for us travel stopped being vacations a long time ago — it's just how we live.

For a few years we planned trips end-to-end — built itineraries, booked hotels, found flights. It worked well, but we realized: we want to help more people. Not do it for you, but show you how to do it yourself.

Now we offer consultations. One hour, shared screen, your questions — and you leave with a method that works for any trip after this one.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much is a consultation, and what is included?
€99 for the hour. That includes the call, by video or voice, our screen shared — you see where we look and what we compare with what — and a short note with links afterwards. There is nothing else to buy: no subscriptions, no add-ons, no “extended package”. Details are on the consultation page.
  • Do you book flights and hotels for me?
No. We show you how we do it ourselves, and you book it — directly, with nobody standing between you and the price. What you keep is the method, not one assembled trip. It is also why we have no affiliate links and take no commission from hotels: it makes no difference to us where you end up booking.
  • How does a consultation work?

Write to us on Telegram, WhatsApp or by e-mail: where you are going, roughly when, and what you want to talk about. We answer whether we can help, and only then do we agree a time. An hour by video or voice, in your time zone, questions at any point. Afterwards we send the note with links.

The same steps in more detail are under “How a consultation goes”.

  • What if you cannot help with my question?
Then we say so before you pay. We have been to 40+ countries, not to all of them, and inventing experience we do not have is pointless — you would notice within ten minutes. If we have nothing to add on your destination or your question, we will tell you. That answer costs nothing.
  • How is this different from reading blogs and watching videos?
Because the hour is about your trip, not the average one. A blog post says “book early”; what you need to decide is whether to fly on Tuesday from a different airport, and whether the extra connection is worth it — with your dates, your budget, your kids. And we answer back, which an article cannot. You can judge the method for free first: the blog walks through a flight search step by step.
